Candle Care+ Safety
CANDLE SAFETY
- Never leave a burning candle unattended
- Extinguish all candles when you leave a room or before going to sleep
- Light candles carefully. Keep your hair and any loose clothing away from the flame
- Never use a candle if oxygen is used in the home
- Trim the wick to one-quarter inch each time the candle is lit. This helps prevent the flame from getting too large
- Don't place a burning candle near clothing, books, curtains or anything flammable
- Keep lit candles away from drafts, ceiling fans and any air currents
- Place candle holders on a stable, heat-resistant surface that is sturdy and large enough to catch any melted wax
- Extinguish a candle if the flame gets too close to the candle holder or container
- Place burning candles at least 3 inches apart from one another
- A burning candle should not be used as a nightlight
- A candle should not be burned for more than 4 hours at a time
- Don’t burn a candle all the way down. For a margin of safety, discontinue burning a candle when 1/2 inch of wax remains in the container
FIRST BURN
TRIM YOUR WICK
After your first burn, make sure to trim the wick. Trimming your wick to 1/4″/ 6.35 mm is extremely important. Use wick trimmers or nail trimmers or at last resort you can pinch the wick with your thumb and index fingers. A wick that is not trimmed and too large will burn to hot, create soot, and use up the wax quickly.
MAKE SURE CANDLE IS NOT LIT OR HOT AND WAX IS NOT IN A MELTED STATE IF YOU TRIM THE WICK WITH YOUR FINGERS AS THIS CAN CAUSE INJURY.
A properly trimmed wicks allows for the candle to burn correctly so that the flame is not too high. Place candles on a heat-resistant surface in a safe, draft-free, undisturbed space with moderate ambient temperature. Do not leave candles unattended. Do not burn for more than 4 hours at a time.
